School and families: P2T training for migrant parents starts in Palermo

3 Νοεμβρίου, 2023

Involving parents and teachers to better support students: this is the goal of P2T, a project that, through trainings and workshops, intends to offer useful tools to overcome linguistic and cultural obstacles and make a positive impact on pupils’ school life.

In recent weeks, in Palermo, at Ubuntu International Center of Cultures, the workshops organized as part of the P2T – Community project began. The 8 workshops, which are also being held simultaneously in the other cities of the partnership – Ljubljana, Athens, Menen and Innsbruck – aim to increase the involvement of migrant parenting in preschools and elementary schools.

During the project meetings, held in Kortrijk, Belgium, on October 17 and 18, together with the other partner organizations, we discussed the progress of the workshops, reviewed the modules and imagined new integrative pathways aimed at parents interested in increasing their knowledge of the school system in the new country.

The workshops provide a unique opportunity for dialogue and discussion with expert facilitators in the education field. In addition, the nonformal activities allow all the participants to learn while having fun, experimenting with new techniques and getting involved in issues that are fundamental to succeed in the integration process.

In Kortrijk, we also talked about the launch of the Community of Practice (COP), an online platform created within the project to enable an exchange of views among teachers on issues related to the presence of foreign students in the schools. P2T’s COP will be a virtual space where the teachers can discuss with collegues coming from different countries, consult best practices identified in various local contexts, download materials useful for conducting workshops with migrant parents, and attend online lectures on project topics.
